It’s all systems go for the fourth edition of the Safaricom Chapa Dimba, Kenya’s largest grassroots competition.
Today, July 18, 2023, the tournament organizers held a strategy meeting with FKF grassroots leaders at the Michael Joseph Center in Nairobi. The meeting was aimed at discussing the modalities of the tournament and how it can be conducted in a bigger and better manner.
While lauding the FKF grassroots leaders for successfully running the tournament’s previous editions, FKF President Nick Mwendwa reiterated the Federation’s commitment to supporting grassroots football as a foundation for the top-tier FKF Leagues and national teams.
“Safaricom has done this for us and we must say a big Thank You. It’s our job now to give young players across the country a chance to showcase their talent,” said the FKF President.
The tournament kicked off in Western region on July 8, 2023, with Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and Vihiga counties staging their sub-county final matches. County finals in the Western region are set to be played in due course.
Nyanza region will follow suit, as the tournament spreads its wings across the country.
At stake for the county finalists is a chance to proceed to the regional finals as well as an array of prize money for both the boys’ and girls categories.
County winners in both the girls’ and boys’ categories will receive Kshs 75,000 each, while the runners-up will be awarded Kshs 30,000 each. Moving to the regional level, the winners in each category will earn a substantial prize of Kshs 250,000, with the runners-up receiving Kshs 150,000.
As the competition reaches the national stage, the semi-finalists in each category will be granted Kshs 250,000 each. The runners-up will be rewarded with a sum of Kshs 500,000. Finally, the ultimate victors in both categories will be crowned champions and will be presented with a generous prize of Kshs 1,000,000.
Beyond the monetary rewards, the national finals’ winners will be granted an opportunity to travel to Spain, where they will have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to test their skills against a Spanish club.
In the previous edition held in 2019, Manyatta United from Nyanza emerged as the champions in the boys’ category, while Kitale Queens from Rift Valley claimed the top spot in the girls’ category. The teams secured the prestigious Kshs 1 million cash prize and the coveted chance to embark on the unforgettable journey to Spain.
